Parcels, prints, prices, pubes

I seem to have been really busy this week without actually achieving very much. Do you ever have weeks like that?

It can't be considered an achievement, I know, but I did receive 2 lovely parcels in the post which made me smile. A lot.

Oh Mrs Coconut, you spoiled me! A gorgeous frock, a fabulous tapestry bag, vintage hair flower, scarf, London tea towel, beads, mirror compact, cute cat book, mini owl vase, AND sweeties for the kids. Now that's what I call a Parcel of Joy! Thank you so much, Melanie.

Littlest has her beady eye on this oh-so-cute vase, she loves owls. We think she may be part human, part owl. Screech, that is.

And look what Lovely Lucy sent me.

It's lip balm. It's organic. It's in a shell. With a mirror. And its own drawstring bag. I Love It!
                                                                  Thank you Luce!

The photos of what I wore today are really shit, I do apologise. I meant to take them outside earlier in the day, but forgot, then had stuff to do, and didn't take them till the light had faded and they are all blurry.  Such a professional, that's me.

I love this frock. It's from Wallis, via a charity shop, of course, and it's super-flattering, easy-to-wear, with a great print and doesn't need ironing. My kind of dress.

Dress (£4.50), necklace (50p), bangles (£1 each) - charity shopped; cardigan (Topshop, 14 years ago!); suede ankle boots (£7) - Ebay; tights (retail, ancient).

I have had a lovely day today.

After the school drop-off, I pinned some bunting with my 2 delightful buddies Joanne and Trace, accompanied by coffee and much chat.

Then I went into town to meet another friend and her gorgeous baby; it's been a while since I cuddled a 3 month old baby, I had forgotten how delicious a thing that is. C's mum and I put the world to rights, and agreed that if only everyone was like us, life would be great.... We have a highly developed sense of irony.

Then I did some shopping (food and charity), came home, packed up some dresses for Littlest's teacher (I am on commission to find her some nice frocks from charity shops, she hates shopping but likes what I wear, so I said I'd source her some stuff), and headed to school.

The older LBs do basketball after school on Fridays, so after I'd collected them, and dropped off a couple of bags of jumble (local JS tomorrow morning, yay!) I took a birthday present round to my friend Claire who lives 4 doors down. Naturally, I stayed for a cup of tea and a slice of her birthday cake, and a discussion of sex education* (she's a teacher), before heading home to make tortillas for tea. Littlest tried a bit of Jalapeno - that's my girl!

Welcome to my world.... Don't yawn. That's my life.

Now I need some advice from you lovely ladies. I am... Drum roll... sharing a stall at a craft and vintage fair next Saturday! Woo hoo! Trace (she of the cakestands of distinction, seen here) is selling her gorgeous creations, and I am selling vintage clothes and accessories. Hopefully.

I can't help worrying that I might sit there with a fixed grin all day long, then have to cart every single thing back home again, having paid for the privilege. But if you don't try, you'll never know.

I need your help with pricing. I want to be competitive and sell, so there is no point pricing too high. But I need to make some money, obviously. And I need some wiggle room for hagglers. So what do you reckon?  £15-20 for a vintage frock? £5-10 for a blouse or skirt? £3 for a scarf or pair of earrings? Help! All my stock is genuine vintage, not ersatz "retro", and in good condition. Let me know what you think, I'd be grateful.

I'm going to be selling this 1980s St. Michael navy polka dot (but you can't see them) pencil skirt. I like it, but it doesn't make me feel fabulous. Vix's Law says that means it has to go.

But look at how big my tits look in that top!

(Karen, I think I hear you hooting from here...)

*How extremely depressing it is to hear that a class of 13 year olds couldn't name any other part of female sexual anatomy other than vagina. And when shown a line drawing of a vulva, they said "Ewwww". And they appear to be unaware that having pubic hair is a normal state of affairs.

On that note - have a most splendid weekend, lovely ladies!

*Gosh you did make me wory with your title... I thought I accidentally slipped some pubes in your parcel!*
You better give little Lb the vase before she swipes it when your not looking. ;)

That shell lip balm is SO COOL! I wonder if someone makes one in a crab shell. *heheh*

I think the prices you listed are good for your vintage selling. That way if someone offers a couple dollars lower you woun't be selling your items for next to nothing.
I suppose you will keep that shirt that gives you the big tits! LOL

I just wandered past my beautician's half an hour ago while waiting for The Stylist at ballet and considered for the millionth time how utterly revolting pubes are - I think part of my brain is still 12 years old. Ooh that's some pretty interesting mind-fuck info for a shrink willing to take me on haaaaaaaa!!! God yes, your tits are awesome in that top and I am amazed, yes amazed that you charity shop for your baby girl's teacher - you are so kind!!! I love to squeeze and nuzzle babies of that age, what a lovely day it must have been to make bunting, eat cake and have a lovely goss with your teacher friend:)). Oh dear, I think if I could answer your questions on pricing, I would have halved my wardrobe years ago!!! I have NO idea how to decide on a suitable price but I'll be watching this post to see what suggestions are made. Pressies!!! Oh darling woman, you are such a sweet, gorgeous creature - who wouldn't want to lavish you with lovely goodies? xoxoxoxoxoxooxxoxo

I like the sound of your day - shopping, cake, chatting, sounds ideal. Yesterday I sat in the Victorian attic room, almost entirely alone for 6 hours, typing in endless illnesses, then getting distracted and talking to Mel Bird about names and letting agents.

I love your packets of delight! It all looks amazing and I can't believe the shell lip balm!

I think your Vintage pricing sounds fair, especially as I know it'll be good quality. My stuff is a little bit less as my clothes aren't amazing. Maybe do a deal with the cheaper things? 2 scarfs for a fiver or something? I only wish I could make it there! Maybe I can?

Your dress is beautiful! XXXXX

Oh man, all we talk about are boobs and vaginas around here--and none of this talk is x-rated any longer.

So, what I'm saying, Curtise, is that I read your "life" with great interest, because it's STILL more interesting than what's going on HERE.

Love the outfits, and did indeed HOOT when you mentioned your well framed TITS.

You looked fabulous in all your outfits, but I know what you mean. Some things don't make us feel AWESOME. Good luck with your stall!

Oh lookee here, I'm back from the dead again, LOL!! This having a boyfriend business is exhausting, I totally do NOT know how the rest of you do it!!! 15-20 pounds for a dress sounds all right to me, bit hard to say from this side of the world. I can give you one handy tip though, if you want 15, price at 17 or 18, and if you want 20 go for 22 or 23, that way you can allow yourself to be bargained down to a nice round figure, somehow its easier to stand firm to a round number when you're being haggled, IME. Parcels in the mail? Always fab when one is as fab as you my dear. Keep up the good work.xxx.

Haha, VintageCoconut's comment made me laugh out loud as soon as I opened the comment forum! I was also wondering which thing you received in the mail contained a small stray hair.

I'm loving that blue dress you're wearing and it is a very flattering cut. And where can I get a sweater that makes my tits look that big? I'm barely an A cup so hook me up!

Your prices sound good but whenever I've done shows I like to secretly walk around and compare my prices with others.

I've only just followed your blog. What an interesting first title to pop onto Google Reader!

I think your pricing sounds great. I was at a vintage fair last weekend and one stall was selling bog standard jumble sale type scarves for £15. Not even nice ones.

I DO love your blog Curtise, where else would you find Wallis dresses, owl vases and 'vagina's' in the same post?
Your dress is totally gorgeous and as for your tit transformer top, I want(need)one!! Your prices sound reasonable to me but I agree with Kitty to allow a margin for negotiation. Good luck at your JS tomorrow and hope you score some great bargains that we'll see soon.
Have a lovely weekend x

PS I wore your skirt the other night.

Love the fact that your dress has pockets. I'm very interested in learning more about your experience with this upcoming stall. My own instinct would be to price high...and then come down a bit, if it doesn't sell. I know that there have been items I've lingered over in the antique shops here...

Great parcels - LB is obviously following in her mother's fabulous footsteps! Perhaps finding dresses for people and selling vintage might be the way forward for you? Us mums have to think 'outside the box' when it comes to gainful(?) employment! Good luck with the stall - I'm pants at pricing (you should see my ebay shop!), but yours sound reasonable to me.
Depressing about the anatomy - I bet they knew plenty of rude names for lady bits!

I hear you on the dress thing - most of my dresses are like that! Love the paisley pattern on the dress, the sassy red shoes, and of course - the carpet bag! :)

Hi Curtise!

Happy Mother's day! I hope you will get a day off out of Mother's Day! Here in Montreal vintage dresses go for $25 to $30 and it is cheap some stores sell them for more - Tops between $15 and $20 - Same for skirts -

Love your paisley dress it is nice to have easy to wear, sometimes you do not know what to wear a
About your life, perfectly fine! Not boring! In fact charming!

Have a great Sunday

My oh my, what magnificent mammaries! Yes, there's no room in our lives for clothes that don't make us feel fabulous (even if they look great), maybe you should wear it for your craft sale with a price tag attached.
I love your Wallis dress and good were TopShop? I've got vests I bought in the Nineties that are still in great shape.
Your prices sound fine. How about a battered vintage suitcase filled with some odds and ends, marked at £5? I've noticed people love these, even if the contents isn't very exciting, that may help increase traffic to the stall.
Love the parcels of joy, Lucy's lip balm looks very posh!
You could never be boring. xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Love the paisley dress. I used to have a lovely one. Wish I still had it. The prices you mention sound very reasonable to me. I also like the idea of deals - like you said - 2 for a fiver that sort of thing always appeals. I'm with Desiree on the pubes issue - I'm obviously very immature. xx

Best title for a LONG time!

I doubt my 13 year old could name anything other than breasts and vagina - must remedy that!

You managed to fit an awful lot into one day - how do you do it? I can't ever fit in socialising, shopping and cooking into 1 day. Sounds like the kinda day I need though.

I think the prices are fine,it's all about your rapport with the customer, which I know will be second to none with you.

People are willing to pay a fiver postage on ebay, on top of the £15+ they've paid for a vintage item. Maybe you should take some things from your own collection to accessorise some of the clothes to help out unimaginative people.

Have you made little labels with your own 'logo'? That helped a friend of mine, like establishing a brand. If you put your email address on, it sort of helps reassure people somehow.

Best of luck, I really do think you'll have a shop one day.

Glad you were on the receiving end of a wonderful parcel full of treats, you're always thinking of others, so you deserved it.

Good on your baby for trying jalapeños too - brave!

That paisley dress is a beauty.
I love the word 'pubes'...it's been making me snigger since I was six!
I reckon that pricing is about right. I usually sell my vintage frocks at a £15-25. If I put one up for sale at £18 it sells quicker than if it's £20 though. You'll do brilliantly.xxxxx

Vintage Sweetheart said...

I'm with your littlest I'd be stealing that owl quick smart!! Amazing parcels of joy are the best. The only ones I've been getting are ones I've paid for not as fun. xx

Unknown said...

Oh My i don't know what to comment on first. What lovely gifts love the owl so cute. You always look gorgeous i say but i agree if you don't feel fabulous or gorgeous in something then it has to go. I agree with you on the pricing i think £15-20 for a vintage dress is about right there is no point in out pricing yourself or your feel really despondant if you don't sell anything. You will do brilliant im sure, have a few things that cost under £5 because some people always like to buy a little something to take home even if they don't have a lot of money. Good luck, dee xx

You also had me at pubes :) I hear they are the last to go gray :)) Both packages are a total delight and so well received when life is crazy busy don't ya think? Blurry or not you look pretty as ever in another green number, truly you color! I can't help you on the pricing as I think you could get WAY more here in the US but I do like Vix's ideas of a suitcase filled with $5 stuff, it will bring traffic. Best of luck selling your wares my dear.

I can't believe they didn't talk about beautiful boobies...yours look perkie and purrrrrrfect!

Hello hello, glad it's not just me who's been absent and not getting stuff done! Lovely parcels and exciting news about the vintage fair - youe prices sound PERFECT to me, that's what I'm always looking for, shame I'm nowhere near you. I think the skirt looks great on you - am a bit perturbed by Vix's law, not sure many of my clothes reach the giddy heights of fabulousness.

The print dress is sooo cute (and it has pockets!), especially with the tights and ankle boots. That top does give you a spectacular rack - I need to get me one of those!

Oh man, I missed the pubes conversation! Bugger.

Oh well, I assure you that I can name every single part of everybody's anatomy, probably alphabetically or in order of size! A useful skill, no wonder I got The Dream Job.

I love the skirt on you - in fact, the whole sexy sailor chic outfit - but you're right to quote Vix's law.

I say charge whatever you think - you'll know pretty quickly whether your prices are too low or too high - people will tell you. Have fun! Spend all your takings on other people's junk. It's the most fun. TAKE PICS!

Love! Sarah xxx

Your chi chis look inviteing in that sweater. Better not get rid of it.
You look lovely in green earthy colors , cute little pockets.
I happen to like your skirt but if your not feeling it then get rid of it.
Your pricing is fair, go a little higher if you want extra mula for more chi che sweaters.

Your photos show off that great dress very well. So jealous that you get to personal shop for others. I know a few peeps I'd like to shop for.

Congrats on the stall; I hope it's a great success.
